Anza Borrego Park

3/11/2010

The second reason we went to the Ocotillo Wells recreation area, other than to save some money, was that it is next door to the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. We have heard it is the place to be in the spring to see the desert bloom. It is suppose to be the "in" place to go when the conditions of rain and sun and warm temps combine to make the desert turn into a giant flower garden for a couple of weeks! Every year it is a different time, give or take a few weeks. We were told we were at just about the right time? We leave our desert outpost and drive to find the town of Borrego Springs where the park Visitor Center is located. Upon arrival Diane takes a picture of some other visitors walking through a visitor center plant viewing area. Below us is the entrance to the "underground visitor center" neatly concealed from view, so as not to spoil the surrounding natural environment. Our first view of God's working in a desert! This is looking back at the visitor center entrance from the visitor center's desert plant garden that you can walk through. Mallery and I hurry ahead of Diane who is closely examining each and every plant in this desert garden, most of which haven't started to bloom. Bite my tongue, here is a flowering humming bird bush. Diane thinks we need to get a new tow vehicle that can handle off-road travel. I guess this might work. It sure would be an eye catcher being pulled behind the nest. Maybe it would look better in front of the nest doing the towing?
