Caliente Springs Park

4/13 - 16/2010

After our two day stay at Desert Pools we drove across the road to Caliente Springs for four nights at $23. This has to be the shortest drive to date to a new neighborhood. Nice green grass and a pond even though we are in the desert. Very nice mobile home and RV park for snow birds. This park has a par 3 nine hole golf course. We have many spots to choose from as most all snow birds have flown north for the summer! The park has 679 sites of mobile homes or RV sites. Very nice place with paved in roads.( Mallery likes this place) Another pond next to the pool area. Side pool area. Very unusual shaped pool. With 4 varied temperature hot mineral springs spas. Another angle of the pool . It had a large pool that turned into a narrow angled pool that turned into another larger pool. This is one of their natural mineral hot spas. Joe and I got into the 2nd hottest spa after dinner one night. After about 10 minutes we moved into the next hottest spa. Finally we got into the hottest one. I didn't last long in that one as it was making me feel sick to my stomach, so I left Joe behind as he had found some people to talk to. I went back to the 3rd hottest spa, then 2nd, then 1st, then finally into the pool to do laps. We were told the water comes out from below the ground at 104 degrees and it has to be cooled down for the different spa pools. Even the big pools have the mineral water at I think 90 degrees. The spas and pools are great for muscle and joint problems. I loved our stay here. Mallery also loved her stay here. This was the first time since we left Iowa last Spring that I saw her do this. She got on her side and pushed herself with her back feet along on the grass. Then she got on her other side and pushed herself with her back feet along the grass. She does miss her big back yard with all of its soft green grass! She is in heaven right now. Who knew we'd find a little piece of heaven in the desert!

Rancho Mirage, CA.

4/11/2010

We settled in at the Desert Pools RV Park in Desert Hot Springs, CA. Joe had quite a time trying to get the Direct TV satellite setup. We stayed two nights here as the Passport 1/2 savings was only good for two nights. ($15 per night). The parks in roads are gravel which Mallery does not like. The laundry was $1.00 per wash and dry which is cheap, so we got our laundry done. They had a hot mineral pool straight from the underground source but we didn't get around to check it out.
This is a picture from on top of the hill in Sky Valley. We checked out Sky Valley RV Resort but their Internet signal was so so. We then checked out another RV park just across the street from Desert Pools that had a better Internet connection. After two days we moved to that park. As with Desert Pools it offers the Passport America Discount for up to seven days ($23 per day).
I got a call from the Rhumatologist that I had seen in Newport Beach and he said a Lyme's test had come back positive. He wanted me to come in for a re test. I told him we were 2 hours away. He told me I needed to find a lab that could redo my blood work, to make sure it was positive. After we got back to Desert Pools, I went to the office to find out where the nearest blood lab was located. Then went back to the nest to schedule the blood work.

The nearest place for blood work was in Rancho Mirage, which was about 15 - 20 miles away.
On the way, of course we saw more wind turbines. Beautiful mid 70 day. But lots of scattered clouds. Entering into Rancho Mirage. Lots of nice landscaping and palms. And fancy buildings. We arrived at the Delores Hope Outpatient Care for more blood work. This health care complex has Bob Hope and his wife Delores name on many buildings. Beautiful drive heading back to Desert Hot Springs. All the streets in Rancho Mirage are named after old famous stars. I hope you enjoyed the ride into Rancho Mirage as much as we did!

Road trip to Desert Hot Springs, CA.

4/11/2010

After a free night at Beaumont, CA.'s Wal-Mart we headed east on Hwy. 10 to Desert Hot Springs. This area is known for its hot mineral water that is available at most of the RV parks in pools so you can soak in it. As we left Beaumont we entered into the San Gorgonio Pass. The San Bernardino Mountains are to the north. And the San Jacinto Mountains are to the south. with thousands of wind turbines between the 1,591 feet cut between them. The San Gorgonio Pass is one of the deepest passes in the 48 states as the San Gorgonio Mountains rise up 9000 ft from the pass. Wind farms are on top of the mountains as well as in the valley. I know I am going over board with the wind farm landscape, but just wanted you to see how many there were!

San Gorgonio Mountain. The wind farms go on forever. Lots of traffic on this section of the Interstate. Our roadtrip from Beaumont to Desert Hot Springs was about 15 to 20 minutes. We don't believe in long day drive:)We finally got off Hwy. 10 and headed down this road. Just doesn't look like a road to a RV park. As is often the case, when we get close to where we are going it just doesn't look like we expected. But we finally reach our park, just beyond the wind turbines. For awhile I was wondering if the RV park might be right next to the wind farm.
