Norris Geyser Basin

7/29/2010

Day 15 mammoth Hot Springs, Yellowstone National Park.

Joe had told me, a person could stay in Yellowstone for a month to see everything, and I am starting to believe him. These are pictures of some of the hot springs, geyser, and mud pots in Norris Geyser Basin. I am not going to say much about them, as they speak for themselves in their beauty. Just check out all the different colors and shapes. There were many, many, many more hot springs, geyser, and mud pots, but I only showed the best in my view. Porcelain Springs One surviving evergreen tree. The green thermophiles use the sun for energy. The red or orange thermophiles use the iron in the soil for energy. When you come to Yellowstone, plan on doing at lot of walking, with the miles of boardwalks. Grasses growing around the basin On the way to our next stop, there was a Bear Jam as the rangers call it. Cars were backed up for miles. We were close enough to see with our binoculars that it was a bear across the river. Children were getting out of their cars and running up the sides of the road, because the cars were not moving. Soon, flashing red lights came up from the back and around us, to take control of the mess. A few minutes later all the children came walking back to their cars. The ranger would not let people stop, so these are pictures as we drove by the bear.
