Lake McDonald Lodge

 8/12/10

We drove 9 miles from Hungry Horse, Montana, and settled into Apgar Campground in Glacier National Park. Apgar is the biggest campground at Glacier with 192 campsites. Apgar is located on the west side of the park.
After setting up the Nest, we jumped into the car for a drive. Before we could leave the campground area of the park, we noticed people pointing into the woods.

A ranger was keeping people from getting to close, as we spotted the black bear.

The ranger started raising his arms over his head and yelled at the bear as he walked toward it. It ran into the woods. We heard it was a teenage bear around 2 years old, that kept coming around the outskirts of the camp.

View of McDonald Lake on our drive.

Our first stop McDonald Lodge.

The red bus is a sight seeing touring bus that has been taking passenger  on the" Going to the Sun Road" for 70 years.

Joe heading for the lodge.

I found a butterfly while following Joe to the lodge.

Back of the lodge, looking out at McDonald Lake.

The lodge was built in 1913. Back then, the guests were brought to the lodge by boat, as a road to the lodge was not built until 1921.

This picture was taken, just before an afternoon shower,as we headed for the lodge.

A real tree hugger.

Cabins located next to the lodge along the lake.

This little birdie was very friendly and just walked amongst the people.

I stood under the front door lodge awning, while Joe ran out into the rain to get our car from the parking lot.

Pictures while I wait.

A very nice place to stay if you don't drive your home around.
