West Shores of Flathead Lake , Montana

8/5/2010

Our second day at Eagle nest RV Resort in Polson , Montana.
As we walk back to our Nest from our short walk with Mallery, you see the Mission Moutains of the Rocky Mountains. The RV park is not located on Flathead Lake.
We decided to drive up the west side of the lake on this day.

There is a lot of farm land on the west side of the lake.

Flathead Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake in the western part of the contiguous United States. With a surface area of about 197 sq mi, it is slightly larger than that of Lake Tahoe. Flathead Lake is 27.3 mi long and up to 15.5 mi wide. Its known maximum depth is 370.7 ft, making it deeper than the average depths of the Yellow Sea and the Persian Gulf. The lake was raised 10 ft by Kerr Dam. It is one of the cleanest in the populated world for its size and type.
The farm land is starting to be sold off to homes.
There a lot of bays on this side that give calmer water in those places.

The views on the west side are much prettier with the mountains in the background.
The lake water is pretty cold because it is so deep and the summer can be cooler here.
Great boating and sailing on the lake.
It 's a beautiful lake, and fishing is good for a sport, The lake has a lot of lake trout, ( mixed opinions about good eating or not) and whitefish.
