Western Horizon Resorts St. David, AZ.

                                                        February 17-23, 2012

We picked Western Horizon Resorts in St. David, AZ. because it is a ROD (Resorts of Distinction) campground and we can stay free here for a week.

Entrance

Joe goes in to register. There are around 265 RV sites in the resort.
An old telephone booth with no phone ~ You don't see those very often anymore.  Soon our grand kids  will ask what boxes are for.

Right across from the office was this fort.

Fort Dos Lagos. It has small canon's in the corners of the fort.. The propane tanks are kept inside.

We are given a really nice big lot. Site # 49

We were parked right next to another Dutch Star.

During the week we met Doug and Lynn who own the 2002 Dutch Star next to us. Joe got lots of questions answered.

There are two large ponds on the property.

This is their cactus garden. It was not in bloom yet.

There are a few sites around the ponds.

I had never seen this kind of duck before. I got out the bird books Renee (Joe's sister) gave me.

It looks like it is a Ring -Necked Duck.

There were lots of duck in the pond, but when I came up to the water they moved away. I needed some bread.

You can see the Whetstone Mountains in the distance.

From the ponds you can see the playground. Behind the swing set is the heated pool.

This resort had  water aerobics Monday - Friday, but the evening are very cold, so the mornings were too cool for me.

The lady is looking at me as to say, " Why are you taking our picture." I wanted to say to her, " I was taking pictures and then you walked into the pool and jaccuzi area. Sorry but I was here first".

Next to the pool area is the Clubhouse.

In front of the Clubhouse is the horse shoe and shuffle board games.
Front entrance of Clubhouse.

Behind the Clubhouse is the laundry. Praise the Lord I don't have to use them anymore except for extra large items. There is also an Activity Center Building, but I did not take a picture of it. They have several,   "pay for" dinners in the Activity Center all week long. The park did not have Texas Hold em card games though that Joe likes to play.

We had beautiful weather while we were there. The nights got down to the high 30's or low 40's, and the days got from the high 60's to high 70's, with no rain. Some trees were just starting to bud out the day before we left.

This is the "Lucky Token Gold Mine". It looked too rough for us to go in.

The campground has three levels of RV sites. The very top level is where the cabins are located.

This is cabin #193 that has the previous picture view.

It is the Cholla cabin.

Another view as we walked down the road. The sun was setting, so the picture had a lot of glare.

We took one of their trails down to level  #2, and looked back up to some of the cabins on the hill.

On our way to Benson's Super Wal-mart one day we stopped to see Bob's Nuthouse on Wheels.

He was selling local pure honey, pecans, and pistachios. I bought some honey and pistachio's. Bob is quite a salesmen, with lots of jokes. I asked if I could take a picture of him as we got back into the car. He agreed to it. After the picture he came over and gave me a medium bag of pecans. What a nice guy! Stop and see Bob on the side of the road between St. David and Benson, and tell him, "Hi" from Diane and Joe the bloggers.

All the RV sites at Western Horizon Resort have railed fence between them. The entire park is in gravel. Mallery didn't like it here much at first, but got use to it before we left.

Our week at Western Horizon consisted of reorganizing Nest 2's basement, blogging , organizing papers, bills, going through tons of mail, and starting to do taxes. You know, ordinary boring stuff. We are now at Valley Vista RV Resort in Benson, AZ. just 8 miles north of Western Horizon Resort.
