We drove from Custer to Deadwood, SD in the car today. We were told by many Deadwood and Leads were a must see. We descended down a very long steep grade to enter Deadwood. As we entered the town we stopped at a parking lot and ate our sack lunch.

Original bar where Bill Hickock was shot in the back. Joe and I were a little disappointed in Deadwood. We thought it would look more authentic than it did, as the whole town is on the registry of historic buildings. The whole town consists of saloons or casino's. There were a couple of shops with one having a great selection of turquoise and other rock jewelry. Joe and I stopped in one of the casino's to play one dollar each in the nickel slots. In no time I lost my dollar. Joe hit two big ones and he ended up winning $16.00 from his $1.00. We left Deadwood , then drove up the road to Leads. Not much in Leads except an old gold mine, where most of the gold that was found years ago was from this mine.
Leaving Leads, we drove to Spearfish, SD.

Down , down , down we go.Never knew South Dakota had so many different terrains. This is the way to learn geography.
In Spearfish we went to a free fish hatchery. If you stop at the visitor center, they give you a coupon for free fish food to feed the trout.
