Garden of the Gods & Pikes Peak

This afternoon we drove through the Garden of the Gods, in Colorado Springs.

Balance Rock Pikes Peak ( mountain in the most background) After our drive through the Garden of the Gods, we drove to Manitou Springs, which is a small shopping area that is kind of like Iowa City. It was a fun little place with different and artsy stuff. At 4:00 PM, we had reservations on the Pikes Peak Cog Railroad. On the way up to Pikes Peak there were rock walls and hugh boulders.
Couple that sat across from us on the way up. They are from India and are newly married of 3 months. They were a very nice couple and told us their name, but Joe and I could not pronoun, let alone spell their name.

Up, up and up. What a view. We leave the subalpine area which is the area where trees can survive. And enter the Alpine Tundra area. No trees can survive above 11,400 ft because of the harsh environment. We pass another Cog railway. They all wave to us. Just like being in a plane. We spot a goat on the tundra. At the top. What a view! Nothing short of spectacular! Love it! Joe matching the train and holding our Pikes Peak 14,110 ft donuts ( crispy on the outside due to high elevation) Joe and I won't even get 6 feet to the edge. This is not a cliff, or we wouldn't be standing here. Amazing rays! Mountain goat people.

  1. I am glad you are finally getting to see all of these places! As I remember the Garden of the Gods was really neat and also riding the railway up Pikes Peak.
