On The Road Again, Finally! 3/6/2011

We took Hwy 98 east along the coast. Destin, Fl. has one of my favorite State Parks- Henderson State Park. We did not stop, because we want to see new places, we have not seen yet.


After spending 4 months and 3 weeks in Gulf Shores, AL., we finally hit the road. Staying in Gulf Shores, was the longest stay any where to date, since we started our "Big Adventure". While there, we got to spend Thanksgiving, and Christmas with our girls and nana & papa kids. We got to be there for our 4th  nana/papa baby,  Madalana June's birth, We enjoyed celebrating Hayleah's, Blake's, Alisha's, Joe's and Tiffany's birthdays. We also enjoyed getting to go to the girls church regularly, which we miss, while on the road. The down side to our long stay in the girl's driveway are: 1) Joe having to take out 2 large bucket full of dish and sink water daily to dump into the toilet. 2) For me it is , not being able to rise off dishes, to conserve water.  3) Being around your children too long, I can get my self in trouble, by saying too much. All mothers know what I am saying here! It was worth parking in their drive, so Joe could go home anytime he wanted to, and I could go in to see the girls and nana kids, when ever I wanted. But we think it is time to fly the coop, before we are not invited back.

We got close to Grayton Beach State Park, but because it was a cool and cloudy day, we decide to continue. Just before Grayton Beach State Park, we headed north on Hwy 331.

We crossed the bridge over the Choctawhatchee Bay.

After crossing the bay, we drove 20 miles, then turned east again, on Hwy. 20., for 113 miles. Our last 25 miles into Tallahassee, Fl. was in the dark. Joe, is not keen on driving in the dark. This is only the 2nd time we have driven past dust, on all our travels. We stayed at the Wal-Mart on the SE side of Tallahassee. The total drive was 220 miles for the day. We would have arrived before dark, put Joe pull into a spot today for lunch, that didn't have a large enough place to turn this beast around. So we had to unhook the car, to get turned around, and get back on the road.

The next morning, while Joe went shopping at Wal-Mart, I got ready and then watch the 1/2 dozen feral cats that were rooming the parking lot.

Last night, while walking Mallery, Joe spotted, two make shift cat homes and food bowl cover, that was shoved behind the bushes. You never know what you will find at a Wal-mart parking lots. Once I saw a homeless lady, her two dogs, and a shopping cart behind some brushes.

Our GPS took us through down town Tallahassee. The town is very hilly, and there were many mossy oaks.

We drove past the Historic Capital Building.

We drove a short day, at a little over a 100 miles. We wanted to stop at Old Town Campground 'N' Retreat. We stayed here 2 years ago. It is a nice cheep place at $14 a day with cable, water and electric. We only needed a place for the night, with no frills. They have a few spots with sewer also.

As we walked Mallery around the park, I took a picture of a carving that a camper carved for the owner, in one of his trees. I can't remember if I shot it last visit.

I said "Hi" to the owners pet duck I meet at our last visit.

No parking lots, just pull in on the grass.

We did get a pull through, since we will be leaving tomorrow, and left the car hook up.

 Lot 42- Joe checked our records, and believe it or not, we were at this park two years to the day, March 7 2009. I can't be for sure, because my old blog does not state it, but I think we are in the same lot space also. Déjà vu!
