Vanderbilt, Delnor-Wiggins Pass, & Bonita Beaches 4/6/2011

Our beach walk was on Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park Beach, north of the sign, for 30 minutes. Then we walked south of the sign on Vanderbilt Beach for 30 minutes. If you are blessed, like we were, you can get one of their 15 free parking sites, at Vanderbilt Beach The other parking lot that is free is across the bridge from the beach or pay $7 for the day . 

It was a very windy day on the beach. We were very grateful for the wind as it was extremely humid and hot.

We really enjoyed watching the wind surfers. Several times I saw the wind take theses guys up about 20 feet in the air.

Even though I only captured 4 wind surfers in this picture, there were 8 out there at one time.

Before we headed home, we wanted to go to Bonita Beach, because one of Joe's books said , Bonita Beach was one of Florida's most beautiful beaches!

It was getting late in the day and the tide was trending toward low tide.

I was finding medium sized shells, which I have not been able to find at all, this time in Florida. Joe found my shells to be boring, and was looking at the homes instead. He pointed out the unusual home ahead.

We walked up to the home.

As we strolled further down, he pointed out the pink home,

sitting in front of the condo. Looks like someone would not sell out.

It was very late for Joe. He likes to be home by five. I was enjoying the warm water,  the cool breeze, and the serenity of the beach.

Back to our starting point, I wanted to let you know, Bonita Beach has rentals here, and a food stand at Doc's Beach House. Parking is $2.00 a hour. The beach is hard packed shell sand, but if you walk when the tide is going out you can find soft sand to walk barefoot. As far as one of  Florida's most beautiful beaches, I think each year the editors of the book has to find something new to write about. Naples Beach and Pier was the best beach in the Naples area, because it had soft sand on the entire beach from shore to sea oats.  The only beach we did not visit was Lowdermilk Park Beach, because they did not have very many parking spaces for meter parking. Most of the parking is for seasonal sticker passes. If you don't have a sticker pass, don't go to Lowdermilk Beach on the weekends.
