Back Home To Enjoy Fall On Lake Charlevoix

October 7, 2016

I enjoyed the short 3 days celebration in Jacksonville, FL for my mom's 90th Birthday with family, but it is always good to get back home,
Sun was setting on the trees across the lake.

                                                                 10/11/16
A couple weeks after getting back home, we had this double rainbow after a shower.
The double rainbow only showed on the ends.

It was a really neat rainbow with the whole sky pink below. You can kind of see the double rainbow on this end also.

Almost 90% of all docks and boats are out of the water by mid October, making the water and boating very peaceful.

After being out for a while, I could see on the weather app, we needed to get back home asap!

Thank goodness for weather apps.

We got home, docked the boat and ran up the hill to our home seconds before the rain started. Note our home is almost yellow now, except half of the last section.
This is a picture of the water at about 8 feet deep, while still in  the boat. With no wave action, the lake bottom was extremely visible.

This was our last boat ride for the year. We enjoyed going out to see the fall colors around the lake.
And believe it or not someone was enjoying the calm cold waters of no boats waves, water skiing! The skier didn't have a wet suit either.

On October 18, our dock and boat lift came out. I watched the guy carrying the dock section on his back through the kitchen window screen. Like I say every year, this guy is strong, but not sure how long he can do this without hurting his back.
During the fall, we take more time to get more walks in.

We walk Ridge Road for a good workout and to enjoy the fall color.

The color was not at the peak quite yet.

Before the siding could be finished in the front of the house, we had one more window to be changed out. Here you can see the log cabin that had been sided in brown, by the previous owner. The window was enlarge a bit wider and lower.

We wanted to get more  natural light in the cabin section of our home, plus the previous windows were casement windows, so when they were open, the porch furniture had to be moved out of the way. The new  windows are now double hung, making it possible to put anything in front of them and still having the windows open at the same time.
On October 21st, we were blessed with yet another rainbow. I am not sure if everyone is aware that God made the rainbow to be a covenant for us.

Genesis 9:13-16 says,
13 I set My bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth. 14 “It shall come about, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow will be seen in the cloud, 15 and I will remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and never again shall the water become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 “When the bow is in the cloud, then I will look upon it, to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” 17 And God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is on the earth.”

It was a full rainbow again.

On the way to do some shopping in Petoskey, we stopped at Walloon Lake. This lake is one of my favorite lakes, besides Lake Charlevoix. I plan on getting some kayaks this years, so we can discover other lakes as well as ours via arm powered.
We also walked a lot for sale on Walloon. I am sure we could afford it at a million dollars.
We continued our 30 minute drive to Petoskey with views of Little Traverse Bay and Bay Harbor Equestrian Center in the distance. Fall is beautiful in Northern Michigan.
Puffy clouds on Lake Charlevoix once back home.

We had driven by a sign for Avalanche Mountain many times, but never found time to see what was 4 miles from our home. On this day we took time to discover our back yard.
Yes, there are 462 steps to the top, and I felt every last one of them.
And yes the climb was very much worth it!
A view of Boyne City on Lake Charlevoix.
The weather was chilly, crisp, and partly cloudy, but we warmed up from the climb.
On a clear day you are suppose to be able to see Lake Michigan,
but not on this day.
Once on top of Avalanche Mountain, we took one of the many hiking/mountain biking trials.

Why did it take us so long to find this place!
Going down the steps was harder than coming up.  If you have bad knees you know what I am talking about.
