Munising Falls, Sand Point Beach, Overlook Pullout, and Lake Properties

                                      Saturday 8/17/2013

The first full day we had in Munising, MI., we just did some exploring of the town itself and it's immediate area. (as Joe likes to call it, getting the lay of the land.)
Munising Falls is located just a few 1 to 2 miles east of Munising. The hike is also less than a 3/4 of a mile with just a few stairs to one of the viewing spots.

At the falls, a family asked me to take their picture, and in return they took ours.

The Munising Falls was a little sparce, so we were glad we didn't go much out of our way to see it.

Just up the road is Sand Point Beach. If you are not in a campground on the water, this is a beautiful sandy beach with calm water.

Just down the road from Sandy Point Beach the road ended. I got out for another lake picture.

You can see from this picture how crystal clean Lake Superior water is.

Next on our agenda was to see Horseshoe Falls. It is located in Munising, but unfortunately it is on private land and there was a charge of $5 or $6 (can't remember which it was) a person. Joe said he was not interested, so we left

I had Joe stop at Muldoons Pasties.

Pasties are a big deal in the UP. This is the beef pasties. I had ate it for lunch with my salad. It was good, but I probably would not come back for another one. When we were in the UP 4 years ago we tried a pasties in Ironwood, MI. and it was just OK also. They taste kind of like a pot pie but not as creamy, and more dry.

I also bought an apple pasties for dessert for later that night. I should have got some ice cream because it would have been much better.

As we headed back toward our campground we stopped at this Overlook Pullout Park and had our lunch here.

The lookout has great views of Munising Bay.
We had picked up a home for sale flyer along the shore of Lake Superior, and called a realtor for the price. This particular home was on a small lot. We asked if she had any other lakefront properties on a larger lot. She told us about a property on Autrain Lake which was just SW of Munising. She told us the property was empty and we could go ahead and walk on it. We drove to it, and found this 2 bedroom cottage with a 2 bedroom mobile home on it also. This property was on a .5 acres, but it still had close neighbors. The lake water was  clear, but the lake is only 12 feet at it's deepest point. It was priced at $229,000. Not what we had in mind for a lake.

There was a sauna in a shed.

Joe deducted from the sauna and a couple of signs, that the owners were Finns. After visiting with some neighbors we found out Joe was right. The property just didn't do anything for me. We will keep looking.
We followed a sign down a long forest lined driveway to this home for sale on Lake Superior. This property was on 4 acres and had a 3 car stall garage at the back of the lot. I loved the setting, but the asking price was $750,000.

As we headed home we saw the Kewadin Casino in Christmas, the town just west of Munising. We didn't want to throw any money, so we headed toward home. To Be Continued:
