Swimmers & Boat Show

3/6/2010

Yet another beautiful day in Yuma. We decided to walk down to the pool and check out the 2ND annual Boat Regatta and Water Aerobics show. I realize this sounds like a lot to fit into our pool but see for yourself.

See the water aerobics ladies lined up in their patriotic outfits.
Who says I only take us to cheap places?
Diane thinks it's really neat how these gals stay active and keep so young.
She also says someday she will be right up there with them if she could just get out of bed and in the pool by 9:00 AM.
And into the pool they march.
Now for the main event; the Boat Regatta! There is a Yacht Club here at the park. They build from scratch or buy a kit and assemble these boats (some are motorized and some aren't). They personalize them and get together once a week and sail them around a large pond on the golf course. Some of the sail boats have remote control sails, but no motor, so they need wind to move. Unfortunately, today was an unusually calm day, so they barely moved.
You can see some of the sailboats on the table, waiting for their turn to be announced and put into the pool. Did I mention they served free margaritas during the show?
Oops, we are back to the aerobics show. Either Diane got her pictures mixed up when she loaded them or something?
Here is a better picture of some of the boats.
This boat has both sails and a motor and is a replica of an actual boat.
An older style cabin-cruiser pulling a dingy. This sail boat has sails that are two foot tall.
This is another large sail boat, about 4 foot tall.
An older, all wood boat. All and all it was a fun event, definitely not something we will probably ever see again.
