Our Favorite Hot Spring at Midway Geyser Basin

7/29/2010

These are pictures of Joe"s and my favorite stop of hot springs, in Yellowstone. To us if you want to see the best stop for hot springs, stop at Midway Geyser Basin just north of Old Faithful. The pictures I have are of two different visits to this stop. We visited it on the 22, and then the 29, because we loved it so much.Crossing Firehole River to the springs. As you cross the bridge, you can see where the spring is draining into the river. On our 2nd visit, Joe had hurt is back and was walking very slowly that day. The bacteria mat is orange, yellow and green, flowing from Excelsior Geyser to the river. This is Excelsior Geyser. It's last eruption was on September 14, 1985.This geyser puts out a nearly constant 4000 gallons of boiling water per minute over it's cater rim into the Firehole River. View from Excelsior Geyser going to Grand Prismatic Spring, my favorite spring.. On the 22, it was a cloudy day, so I got good shadow shots. On the 29, it was a sunny day, so I got good reflection shots. Are you ready for the best of the best? Reflection of the clouds in the bacteria mat. Reflection of the trees also. The Grand Prismatic Springs is so beautiful. You have the turquoise of the spring. A green color that circles the spring. Then yellow circles the green. The you have all this orange and brown around the yellow.

You can see the colors better in this picture. In this picture the brown tortoise design is cool. Then you have the white in the orange here. This has got to be the most beautiful thing I have seen on our adventure! Us.This is the Opal Pool next on the boardwalk, on the cloudy day. It kind of looks like a small Grand Prismatic Spring. It is hard to come after it though. The Opal Pool on the sunny day close up. Then we walked by the Turquoise Pool And then back to the Excelsior Geyser.

Excelsior Geyser getting ready to empty into the river. Two streams into the river.
Joe wanted me to remind you to double click on the pictures to see them in a larger fame to see the colors best.
